Building energy modeling

From the architect’s IFC model to a permit-ready documentation set

One dynamic model of the building replaces three parallel documents. We convert the BIM model into a physics model, solve all 8,760 hours of the year, and derive the energy assessment, the certificate, the LCA climate report and the product catalogue from that single source.

EN ISO 52016-1 · ANSI/ASHRAE 140 validated · EPBD-aligned

What one calculation chain produces

The permit set is not a separate exercise from the technical design. Every document below is a view of the same physics model.

Energy performance assessment

The permit-level assessment: envelope, ventilation, systems and the calculated E-value for the heated net area.

Energy certificate

The official certificate document, produced from the same model and registered as required.

LCA climate report

Life-cycle carbon footprint and handprint, derived from the material masses already present in the BIM model.

Building product catalogue

The machine-readable product and material list required alongside the climate report.

Correctly sized systems

Hourly heating and cooling loads, so heat pumps, storage and distribution are sized on physics rather than on a rule of thumb.

Why 8,760 hours instead of a monthly estimate

  • Real peak hour, not an average. Equipment capacity is set by the worst hour of the year, which a monthly method never sees.
  • Simultaneous heating and cooling. South facades can demand cooling while north-facing zones still need heat; the coupled matrix solves both from one closed energy balance.
  • Thermal inertia from the real build-up. Heat capacity is derived from the bill of materials, including the EN ISO 52016-1 daily-effective penetration depth.
  • Overheating before it is built. Summer comfort and shading choices are evaluated in the same run as the heating balance.

How the work proceeds

01

Model intake

We take the architect’s IFC/BIM model, or rebuild a clean model from 2D drawings when none exists.

02

Physics model

Geometry, build-ups and material masses become a 5R1C state-space model with real heat capacity and radiation physics.

03

8,760-hour simulation

The annual balance, peak loads and overheating are solved hour by hour — one annual run is measured in milliseconds.

04

Documentation and twin

The permit documents are generated from the model, and the model lives on as the building’s digital twin.
